Paid in Full?

PAID IN FULL!  Really? Just about every preacher will say, “IF you fail to confess your sins (1 Jn. 1:8-9), you will certainly be chastised (Heb. 12:6) over your disobedience to divine sovereignty and consequently run the risk of being killed by God prematurely (1 Jn. 5:16) for shaming His Holy name!”

This may make sense to the reformed mind, but it’s repugnant to sound doctrine (1 Tim. 1:10, Tit. 1:9). The Bible never says God will kill His children early as a way of discipline if they continue in sin. This is pure myth. Why is it God never wiped Paul off the face of the earth who they like to call the “Chief of Sinners?” (Which Paul was talking about his FORMER life, not as a follower of Christ!)

If all your FUTURE sins are really “Paid for in advance” by the sacrifice of Christ and guarantees you eternal salvation regardless how you live afterwards, then confession of ongoing sin is really purposeless since God is now morally blind to any future sins you may commit!

For that matter, how could God possibly KILL (discipline) you over sins that are ALREADY under the blood? If your sins were “paid for” by provision of Calvary, then how can your sins be RECHARGED against you again?

It is absurd that God PUNISHES what God has ALREADY forgiven, yet this is what is taught on a daily basis in the majority of churches today.

  1. Hi Brad. You said:
“God, in His mercy and immense love, WILL take someone off this earth “prematurely” if it is in His best interest to protect them form (sic) sinning, so they can be saved in the end. I have seen this occur.”

Can you give an example in scripture where it happened? I’m not aware of one. Sandra correctly brought up the fact that the OSAS crowd often refers to Paul as the “chief of sinners”, but if that were true after his conversion, according to their teaching on 1Cor 3 and 5, then God would have killed Paul to keep him from sinning, right?

And I must agree with Sandra about the teaching that God kills people as chastisement to keep them from sinning is pure myth. I don’t at all believe that that’s part of the believer’s journey. Those who belong to Jesus don’t have the choice to sin willfully until God kills us. Those who die in their sin don’t GO to heaven. He that sins is of the devil, John tells us:

1Jn 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
    7
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil
; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

  2. Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Psa 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Pro 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

If God kills you, it isn’t to take you to heaven:

Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

    Amen sis Sandra!
